Infant massage classes offer parents a wonderful opportunity to experience how to communicate and bond with their baby through nurturing touch and massage strokes.
The classes are suitable for all parents and all babies aged 8 weeks up to 7 months, and they are taught by a certified infant massage instructor (CIMI) using the techniques and principles of the International Association of Infant Massage (IAIM).
Classes are available in both a group environment or on a one-to-one basis, and group classes tend to last an hour and a half on average.
Over the course of 5 classes held once a week, a parent will learn:
- Massage stokes for legs, feet, stomach, chest, arms, hands, face and back
- A short colic routine
- Gentle movements
- Touch relaxation
- The best time and for how long to massage
- What massage oils to use
- The importance of good positioning
- How to adapt the strokes for your baby’s individual needs and the growing child
Classes are ideally taught over five weeks in order to give both the parent and baby time to learn and become accustomed to the massage. The lessons are also cumulative, meaning that the massage strokes taught in each new class build upon the ones from the previous class. Detailed massage stroke handouts will be available.
